Loket nad Ohří
Loket is located about 13 km from Carlsbad and besides a Medieval castle from the 13th century it can boast a beautiful monument zone around its square. The castle is open to the visitors throughout the whole year and it offers several interesting exhibitions including an exhibition of torture procedure in the castle basement.
Bečov nad Teplou
You will find one of the most visited monuments of the region in Bečov, 27 km from Carlsbad – castle and chateau Bečov. Besides the historic interiors and beautiful gardens you will find the second most valuable artefact of the Czech Republic – St. Maurus Reliquary – there. One of the chateau tours tells the history of this unique exhibit.
Ostrov
The town of Ostrov, located about 12 km away, attracts visitors mostly with its unique church premises called the Holy Precinct. The former premises of the Piarist grammar school with a monastery has undergone an overall reconstruction recently and it offers an interesting tour. A beautiful chateau park with an art gallery is located in a Summer House in its vicinity, as well as a parish church of St. Michael or an “Econcentre” with a publicly accessible garden presenting both domestic and exotic animals.
Cheb
You can reach the historical town of Cheb by a highway in some 30 minutes. The town which is over 950 years old offers a lot of interesting things to the tourists. The local castle, a unique Staufer palace, dates back to the middle of the 12th century. The “Špalíček” – a set of historical burgher houses at Jiřího z Poděbrad square, St. Nicolas Church or the Franciscan monastery with a beautiful cloister are among the popular monuments there. There are many more historically valuable monuments in the centre of the town though.
Mariánské Lázně
The town of Mariánské Lázně is located about 54 km from Carlsbad and it offers spa care based on utilization of the local curative sources focusing on the kidneys and urinary tract. There is a spa colonnade bordered by colonnades and other historically valuable spa buildings. There is also a “singing fountain” there which attracts the visitors with a well-designed choreography of water and music, and also light when it’s dark, from spring to autumn. The Boheminium Park is a popular venue where you can find miniatures of the Czech monuments, reduced in the rate of 1:25 against the originals, too.
Františkovy Lázně
Františkovy Lázně is another significant spa town near Carlsbad, about 48 km away. Besides a beautiful spa zone full of well-arranged parks and historical buildings built mostly in the Classicist and Imperial styles, you will also find the popular aquapark Aquaforum Františkovy Lázně here. One of the golf courses – Golf Resort Franzensbad – Hazlov – is located near Františkovy Lázně too.
